1000 steps at Dandenong Ranges

To all the nature lovers, 1000 steps, Kokoda Track Memorial Walk is one of the to go destinations when you visit Melbourne. No matter if it is raining or sunny. Either or, you would be submerging yourself in a beautiful rainforest greenery and breathing in some fresh air.

When I went to 1000 steps, it was raining and extremely foggy. It created a mysterious effect, perfect for thrill impact photographies.

The climb wasn’t as hard as I thought, if you do not have any knee injuries and if you exercise regularly. I can assure you that your legs would be sore if you aren’t a regular gym goer. However, everything is all worth it!

There are two paths to get to the top. We took the step path up (Kokoda Track) where we were submerged within the rainforest and took the easier and wider path down (Lyrebird Track). Be careful of muddy and slippery walkways on a rainy day.

P.S
Do try the scones at The 1000 Steps Café. YUM!

Do drop by Miss Marple’s Tearoom for lunch, located on Dandenong Tourist Road where there are other shops around. There is Soak Bathecary where they sell soaps, candles and moisturizers. Cream at Sassafras, just next door; where they sell gourmet food and boutique Australian produces. (Only amazing thing is that you can try everything in the store! Can never go wrong with ‘try it before you buy it’ policy.) Tea Leaves, where you can discover over 300 teas! You will find yourself in THE tea house which sells more than just tea. Need a teapot? Plunger? Water bottle? Anything relates to tea or coffee, you can find it at Tea Leaves. Many quirky designs too!

Miss Marple’s Tearoom is just next door to Tea Leaves and trust me, it is worth the wait! Although the seating is a little tight in the restaurant, but it is a cosy feel that the restaurant provides. We ordered a beef pie, scones and their soup of the day – mushroom soup. Every mouth full was delightful. (My mouth is watering right now just thinking back of the flavours.)

Miss Marple’s Tearoom’s jam that came with the scones were homemade and they were extremely sweet! If you have a sweet tooth, you are in for a treat. If you don’t have a sweet tooth like I, it is all fine. It goes utterly perfect with the cream. I could just eat their jam and the cream by themselves. DEVINE.

By any chance if you are interested in Australian Aboriginal history and art, visit William Ricketts Sanctuary; which is 10~15 minutes drive away. It was interesting but also strange in a way. Heads popping out everywhere of the rocks.

Do drive to Kalorama Park Lookout, a view that will take your breath away. You can see Olinda Creek at far along with the greenery of the Forest Reserve. So. Beautiful.

There are many other amazing nature destinations where you can explore at Dandenong Ranges – Olinda Falls, Puffing Billy Railway, Sherbrooke Falls and more; plus plenty of town shoppings and fresh produces. (visit here for more information.)
